Cacao farmers in Guiuan, Eastern Samar received community-based development enterprises from the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 8 through the High Value Crops Development Program.

Dr. Andrew Orais, Field Operation Division Chief, spearheaded the activity together with Ms. Eva Adora, HVCDP Focal Person. The activity was also attended by Hon. Jose Eric Cordero, Hon. Carlito Abrugar, Hon. Jonas Abuda, Mr. Efren Berongoy, Municipal Agriculturist, some farmers and fisherfolks.

Mr. Daniel C. Gapul, President of Guiuan Cacao Farmers Association emphasized the importance of the facility. β€œItong pasilidad na ito ay malaking tulong para sa amin na mga cacao farmers. Magagamit na rin namin ang mga kaalaman na aming nakuha during the training,” Gapul said.

Some of the highlights of the said activity included the oathtaking of the new set of officers of the Guiuan Cacao Farmers Association, and blessing of the facility and machines. Meanwhile, the supplier of the machines also conducted a training on how to operate the machines that they received.

Aside from the cacao processing facility and plant nursery, the association also received two (2) units of cacao roaster, two (2) units of cacao grinder, two (2) units of cacao huller, melanguer, tempering machine, fermentation box, pod splitter, etc.
