In preparation for the immediate implementation of Phase 2 of the DA X DOJ RISE Project, the DA HVCDP and the BuCor Team conducted a collaboration meeting to discuss the specific actions to be taken to start the Phase 2 of the Project. This phase, to commence this September, covers an area of 502 hectares in Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) for the planting of hybrid rice, corn, cashew, pinakbet vegetables, fruits, growing of tilapia, cattle and goat production, and for the establishment of edible garden and sunflower farm. An additional area of 10 hectares in the partly-shaded and cold area of IPPF shall be allocated for abaca production.

The DA X DOJ Reformation Initiative for Sustainable Environment for Food Security Project colony in Iwahig, Puerto Princesa City, aims to utilize BuCor’s idle lands for agricultural production to support the government’s campaign to boost the country’s food sufficiency levels. It engages Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) as farm workers under its Work and Livelihood Program to reform and prepare them for reintegration into society.

Present in the meeting were IPPF Superintendent, Major Gary Garcia, IPPF Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Teddy Martin, BuCor’s Atty. Neil Buot, and DA HVCDP NPMO’sAtty. Joycel Panlilio, Jose Jeffrey Rodriguez, and Michelle Terrenal. Also present were the Agricultural Program Coordinating Officers in Palawan, Mr. Vic Binasahan and Engr. Amang Binasahan.
