March 22, 2022- Department of Agriculture Undersecretary for High Value Crops and Rural Credit Evelyn G. Laviña led the turnover of the 10,000 bags and 20,000 bags capacity of cold onion storage facilities to onion farmers of Valiant Primary Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Brgy. Marcos Village, Palayan City, Nueva Ecija.

The establishment of these facilities was funded by DA under High Value Crops Development Program amounting to P17,499,575.95 and P40,000,000.00 which aims to increase the price of onions while maintaining the supply in the local market.

The facilities will also prolong the shelf life of onions and lessen postharvest losses which in turn helps the farmers achieve decent income.

Usec. Laviña congratulated the Valiant Primary Multi-Purpose Cooperative and underscored that these projects are in line with the DA goals of a food secure and resilient Philippines with empowered and prosperous farmers and fisherfolk. With the establishment of these facilities, she hopes the best for the farmers in achieving “masaganang ani at mataas na kita”.

DA RFO 3 Regional Technical Director Eduardo L. Lapuz, Jr. on the other hand assured onion farmers that there will be more construction of such facilities under DA projects.

Agricultural Program Coordinator June Lacasandile, Palayan City Agriculturist Esmenia Lulu and Brgy. Chairperson Josephine Guevarra were also present during the activity.
