The Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 8 (DA-RFO joined in the simultaneous kick-off ceremony of the DA-BPI’s Green Revolution 2.0: Plants for Bountiful Barangays Movement (Luntiang Ani ng Mamamayan) held today, October 26, 2022. Three farmer-groups from Alangalang, Leyte, namely, Parag-uma ha Bato-Dao Farmers Association of Brgy. Bato; Sitio Binotong Farmers Association of Brgy. San Isidro; and, Alangalang Agripreneurs and Services Farmers Association (ALASFA) of Brgy. Tombo were tapped and involved in the said event.
Ms Eva Christian T. Adora, HVCDP Regional Focal Person led in the turnover of vegetables seeds and other inputs to the three farmer-groups. Ms Adora also briefed them on how to avail of government programs, as well as on how to strengthen and sustain their efforts as an organization in order to be a key partner in agricultural development.
Also present during the activity were Ms Dinma P. Catindoy from the Office of the Provincial Agriculture – Leyte, and Ms Adelaida R. Pulma of the Municipal Agriculture Office.
Spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Plant Industry, the initiative aims to support the supply of fresh fruits and vegetables in urban, peri-urban, and rural areas as well as to raise awareness of the importance of agriculture, especially its impact on achieving food security in the country, as envisioned by the President and Department Secretary Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. Additionally, it hopes to inspire people to engage in urban agriculture as a means of ensuring their own food security and as a potential source of additional revenue. Overall, it aims to support the government’s effort for food security in the country.
